In selecting a law firm for my 2L Summer, I chose Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer because of its international character and because I could do real, substantive, and varied work. Being able to work on matters ranging from international disputes to complex US litigation and regulatory questions was an invaluable experience that guided my next steps as an HSF Kramer lawyer. The team is supportive, and you are truly able to discover and pursue your interests during the summer, with your assigned mentor showing a genuine interest in your career.

As a summer associate, I was exposed to substantive assignments across diverse practice areas, which gave me a great idea of the type of work associates do and how life as an associate would be. Everyone has been extremely welcoming, helpful, and friendly. With any question I’ve encountered over the summer, I received prompt, helpful support. There were also a number of fun social events throughout the summer that gave the summer associates even more opportunities to build camaraderie and interact with firm attorneys. I always look forward to coming into the office, saying good morning to familiar faces, and being surrounded by attorneys and other summer associates who have a genuine interest in maintaining a successful legal career. It has been an absolute pleasure to work at HSF Kramer.

Starting my legal journey at HSF Kramer has been an immense privilege. As both a summer and first-year associate I have had the opportunity to work on a wide variety of matters across several practice groups in the firm, truly exploring my interests in the law. In several instances I have also been fortunate enough to work directly under partners on truly substantive work that piques my interests in several different sectors. I am proud to be a part of such a supportive and collaborative firm and truly look forward to developing as an attorney at HSF Kramer.

HSF Kramer’s summer associate program was a wonderful experience and gave me the opportunity to engage in substantive legal work, explore a variety of practice areas, and to build relationships with attorneys and staff across the firm. The program is designed to expose summer associates to a variety of practice areas, through formal simulations and training as well as through the assignment process. The attorneys I worked with made an active effort to include me in team calls, client meetings, and hearings, and were genuinely interested in getting to know me as a colleague. HSF Kramer's commitment to pro bono work shone through during the summer program, as I was encouraged and given opportunities to participate in a variety of pro bono cases even as a summer associate. After joining HSF Kramer as an associate, I continued to have opportunities for substantive, meaningful legal work (both billable and pro bono) and have been happy to be a part of the collegial environment here at the firm.
